From her light-footed and orchestrated movements, you can tell she is giving life to an invisible world. Standing before dozens of tiny vials of magical essences, perfumer Niki Zoniou doesn’t just design a new fragrance. She creates a chemical synthesis of feelings.

Niki Zoniou studied chemistry, but her life had been taken over by perfumes long before that. As a child, when her father, Doxakis Zonios, first began to work in the fragrance industry, she began to memorise scents. Later, she came to know very well what she wanted. To make fragrances that trap memories and feelings and take you back to treasured experiences.

The first step to designing a fragrance, she says, is to select the feeling you wish to describe. It could be a memory or a colour. Or it could be a person you just met, or a piece of music. When a fragrance occupies a space, it cannot be ignored because something magical happens. It is as if it has its own soul; it demands to tell its story.

In 2008, perfume became her vision and Niki Zoniou established her first Zoniou store in Thessaloniki. She created an entire world of scents and aromatic elixirs that inspire her in a space that provides a holistic shopping experience. Nowadays, at one of the three Zoniou shops, we can create our own perfume. It is Niki Zoniou’s way of sharing her art so that one does not simply buy a fragrance, but also experiences it.

INSPIRATIONS by Niki Zoniou

Like short stories that unfold on the wrist or behind an ear, the INSPIRATIONS collection by Niki Zoniou is an entirely new olfactory experience. The perfumer’s passion and experience come together in a range of more than 60 fragrances that serve as the basis for her creations. Aromatic flowers, spices, fruit, herbs and scents that bring back memories, such as powder or cashmere, are all part of her inspiration drawn from her life and travels. You can sample and buy them at the Zoniou stores.

CREATIONS by you

Steal a little of the magic in the art of perfume-making with an experience that will stay with you for a long time. At the Zoniou stores, anyone can concoct their own custom-made fragrance in three steps. First, choose the aromatic base and add the desired notes. Then watch as the perfume is mixed on the spot, and finally, give it a name and have it printed on the label. It’s a great option if you want your perfume to be unique in every way, and a great idea for a meaningful gift.
